Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway

The Bo’ness and Kinneil Railway is a heritage railway in Bo’ness, West Lothian. It is operated by the Scottish Railway Preservation Society and operates over a total of 5 miles of track.

You can enjoy a scenic 10-mile return train journey from Bo’ness to Manuel along the Forth Estuary. The railway passes through woodlands, waterfalls and over the Avon Viaduct. Their main season runs from April until October with special events, in December. They run steam and heritage diesel trains at weekends, Tuesdays and other days in the school holidays.

The railway is a popular film location and there is a museum of Scottish railways at Bo’ness. This has three large buildings full of historic locomotives, carriages and wagons. Plus models, displays and photos tell the railways history.

What are the ticket prices?

First class private compartment for up to 6 people is £60 and a standard private compartment for up to 6 people is £50. Or for a seat in a shared carriage, it costs £13 per adult and £7 per child aged 5-15. Under 5s are free, but don’t get a seat, family tickets are available.

Is there parking?

Free car and coach parking is available at Bo’ness Station.

When are they open?

They run most Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays plus some extra days during school holidays. For up-to-date opening times and dates please visit their website.

Dog friendly?

Dogs are welcome in the shared carriages and outside at the stations.
