Botanic Garden Durham University
The Botanic Garden in Durham is part of Durham University on the outskirts of the city. They are open to the public and the gardens are set in 10 hectares amongst some beautiful mature woodlands.
What is there to do at Botanic Garden Durham University?
The gardens offer a wide variety of landscapes to explore and discover with young and old guests visiting throughout the year. Children can pick up a spotter sheet to take around with them. There are often craft activities available in the glasshouses for families and they offer a variety of activities to keep kids entertained throughout the year.
There are plant collections from around the world including Japan, South Africa, New Zealand, Chile and more. Plus a woodland garden, an alpine garden and a bamboo grove. Hidden amongst the plants are several pieces of artwork. The glasshouses are also home to a collection of bugs, insects and spiders including scorpions and tarantulas.

What are the ticket prices?
Adults £15-20. Children 5-15 years £6 from 1st November they are cheaper at £5 an adult and children under 16 are free.

Is there parking?
There is free parking at the Visitor Centre car park. Please note that you must give your registration number to the staff in the Visitor Centre on arrival to verify free parking
When are they open?
The Botanic Garden is open almost every day of the year, including Sundays and Bank Holidays, but does close shortly before Christmas and re-open after New Year when Durham University itself is closed. For up-to-date opening times and dates please visit their website.
