Caldey Island

Caldey Island is a small island near Tenby in Pembrokeshire. It is less than a mile from the main coastline and it has a history dating back to over 1,500 years. It is one of the holy islands of Britain and the Cistercian monks of Caldey continue a tradition which began there in Celtic times.
What is there to do on Caldey Island?
All sailings to the island are subject to weather permitting and may be cancelled at short notice. Most of the boats that can transport you to the island are privately owned vessels which have been granted special permission to land at certain times of the day/week.
The island is open from Easter to the end of October, weather permitting. They are closed on Sundays and there are limited sailings during April and October. The crossing time takes around 20 minutes each way. There is a map available on arrival plus leaflets from the Island Post Office and the shop. The abbey and the Monastic Enclosure are not open to visitors.
You can visit a couple of churches and there is an accessible beach at Priory Bay. No other beaches are available for public access. There are several island walks with a variety of surfaces. There are other facilities such as shops, a chocolate factory, toilets and a tea garden.

You can not take your cars to the island. There is parking near the harbour on the mainland, charges apply.
