Caldicot Castle

Caldicot Castle

Caldicot Castle is located in the centre of Caldicot in Monmouthshire. It is set in a beautiful setting of tranquil gardens and a wooded country park. The castle itself is medieval and most of the structure that remains today was built around 1170.

The castle was founded by the Normans, developed in royal hands as a stronghold in the Middle Ages and restored as a Victorian family home. Within the castle, you can find out all about its past. You can explore the medieval towers and enjoy some breathtaking views of the surrounding area.

There is a castle dungeon which is reputed to be haunted by a number of ghosts. Once you have explored the castle there are 55 acres of country park that you can explore. The castle is free, to visit except on event days when there is a small charge. The parkland is open all year round although the castle shuts over winter and most of autumn. There is a playground with a large swing and a play frame.
