Callendar House

Callendar House and Park are located in Falkirk, Stirlingshire. It is a stunning 14th-century, French chateau-styled mansion house complete with a working Georgian kitchen. Over the years it has played host to many prominent historical figures including Mary Queen of Scots, Oliver Cromwell, Bonnie Prince Charlie and Queen Victoria.

Things to do at Callendar House

You can enjoy a walk in the beautiful parklands and explore the house and their exhibitions. The house interiors have been restored to their former Georgian-style glory and it is the principal museum in the Falkirk district for art and history.

There are two magnificent reception rooms and the working kitchen is dominated by a huge open fire. Staff in period costumes give insights into working conditions in the house over the centuries and prepare the same food that was enjoyed at the grand social occasions that once took place there.

The grounds include a pitch and putt course, crazy golf, an amazing children’s adventure playground and a boating lake. They are also home to the Forbes family mausoleum which is a large domed circular Grecian-Doric building. Various events are held within the grounds throughout the year.
