Canonteign Falls
Canonteign Falls is an award-winning tourist attraction near Exeter in Devon. There are two sets of waterfalls located in a scenic setting with fern gardens and many lakes. The waterfalls are located on a private estate so there is a charge to visit.
What can you do at Canonteign Falls?
As well as there being a natural waterfall on the estate the wife of the owner of the estate created a second waterfall for the miners to occupy themselves after they lost their jobs. The miners were saved from redundancy to bring her vision to life and create the dramatic 70-metre falls that you can see today.
You can see the waterfalls during your visit and then climb 90 original Victorian Steps to the fern garden. You will then cross the bridge at Devil’s Leap which is the site of the natural falls and a little further up there is a viewing platform where you can watch the water cascade over the edge.
The path will then take you down through ancient woodland, to Lily Lake, the old orchard and bee garden and the 30m zip wire plus mini assault course. Please note that the climb takes no longer than half an hour but is steep and strenuous.
There is a children’s play area with a huge wooden galleon to play on, two large trampolines, swings and a climbing frame with a slide. On the other side of Lily Lake are the zip wire and mini assault course that is suitable for children from the age of 5-12. There is another play area here with the Green Ship play structure.
