Carlisle Cathedral

Carlisle Cathedral

Carlisle Cathedral is located in the centre of Carlisle in Cumbria. It is a Grade 1 listed Anglican Cathedral that after standing close to the border with Scotland for nine centuries it has a lively story to tell.

Highlights in the Cathedral include the decorative choir ceiling, the Bishop’s throne and the stunning stained glass East Window. Plus a Triptych and the 46 choir stalls with ornate carvings. In 1988 part of the Cathedral was excavated and several Viking graves were exposed. The treasures that were then found here are housed in ‘The Treasury’ which you can see today.

Make sure you pick up one of their free children’s trails to help you discover more about the cathedral. They also run family-friendly craft activities during most school holidays which have a small charge to take part.
