Castle Hill and Victoria Tower

Castle Hill and the Victorian Tower are located close to Huddersfield in West Yorkshire. The hilltop has been settled for at least 4,000 years. The scheduled monument on top of the hill comprises the remains of a late Bronze Age or early Iron Age univallate hillfort. Plus a 12th-century motte-and-bailey castle and the site of a deserted medieval village.
What is there to do at Castle Hill and Victoria Tower?
The climb to the stop is quite steep but you will be rewarded with some fabulous views once you reach the top. It is a popular spot for kite flying, although they ask you not to fly them in high winds and thunderstorms. The tower itself was completed in 1899 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Queen Victoria’s reign.
Regular events, take place at Castle Hill including tours of the site and its archaeology, nature walks, bird watching and bat walks. The climb up the tower is steep and there are a lot of steps but the views are worth it.
