Cave Hill Country Park
Cave Hill Country Park is located on a rocky hill overlooking the city of Belfast, County Antrim. The park has a visitor centre, walking and orienteering trails plus archaeological sites.
The park gets its name from five caves, which are thought to be early iron mines located on the main Belfast cliffs. Archaeological sites in the park include the remains of a stone cairn, Cashel and crannog. The most spectacular of the sites is McArt’s Fort which is an ancient rath standing at almost 368 metres above sea level.
There are a number of entrances and car parks in the park. You may come across cattle crazing so make sure you keep to pathways and keep dogs on a short lead. There are three waymarked trails with various levels of difficulty. These are 4.5 miles, 2.4 miles and 0.8 miles in length. The shorter trail is a circular walk that takes you to the gardens of Belfast Castle.
The Cave Hill Playground is suitable for children from toddlers to 14-year-olds. It has a number of fun things to play on and most of it has a castle/fort design.
