Chagford Swimming Pool
The Chagford Swimming Pool is located in Chagford near Newton Abbot, Devon. It is the largest river-fed open-air swimming pool in the southwest of England.
Things to do at Chagford Swimming Pool
Originally dug out by the local residents by hand the pool was first opened in 1933. Today the pool is managed by a committee of volunteers. In the early days, it had a mud bottom and the water was unfiltered. Needless to say, it has been renovated and is now a regular swimming pool with luckily no mud bottom.
The water is heated with air-source heat pumps and PV solar panels which also power the hot showers, lights and their Tea Shed. The pool is maintained at around 27oC. There is a larger pool plus a toddler pool complete with toy boats, watering cans and ducks.
Qualified lifeguards are always on duty. The pool depth ranges from just under 1 metre to just over 2 metres at its deepest. There are chairs, tables and parasols around some of the pool.
