Chester Cathedral
Chester Cathedral is located in the heart of the city of Chester. The cathedral was once the abbey church of a Benedictine monastery and since 1541 it has been the seat of the Bishop of Chester. It is a grade 1 listed building and was first constructed in the 10th century and then in the early 16th century with modifications throughout history.
The cathedral offers an hour-long tour which includes a climb right to the top of their central tower with some great views from the top. You will discover lots about the history of the building and more. There are 1-2 tours most days.
You can also discover more during your visit by joining one of their complimentary ground-floor tours. These last approximately one hour and start at the bottom steps at the west end of the Nave, tours depart daily at 11 am and 2 pm. You are free to explore at your own pace should you not wish to join any of their tours.
