Museum Overview

The Classic Boat Museum in Cowes on the Isle of Wight is a museum with boats connected to the history of yachting and boating. It is a working museum where you can see restoration work.

It has two sites which consist of the Boat Shed and the Gallery. In the Boat Shed in Cowes, West you can see an impressive collection of nearly 90 boats. This includes classic yachts, motorboats and lifeboats. Plus Sir Ben Ainslie’s 2017 Americas Cup test boat the BAR T1. These can be viewed at close range, you can even go onboard one of the boats.

At the Gallery in East Cowers, you can see an extensive collection of maritime artefacts plus boat models and photographs. They even have a Dinghy Simulator where you can cruise or race around some buoys. You can control the boat with the main sheet, the tiller and your weight position.
