Claymills Victorian Pumping Station

Claymills Victorian Pumping Station

The Claymills Victorian Pumping Station is located in Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire. It is a restored Victorian sewage pumping station that is open to the public. Families can learn all about the technology that drove the Industrial Revolution and today two of their four huge pumping beam engines still work. In the workshop, you will be able to see engineers and a blacksmith at work.

As well as the two operational beam engines there are 26 other steam engines. You can see these running on special steaming days which are listed on their website. During their normal open days on Saturdays and Thursdays, they usually run two guided tours a day.

Children can experience what it is like to start a steam engine and there is a dressing up and lots of LEGO. There is a rat trail around the site. Plus there is often the chance to ride on a model traction engine.
