Coggeshall Grange Barn
Coggeshall Grange Barn is a National Trust property located in Coggeshall, near Colchester, Essex. It is one of Europe’s oldest timber-framed buildings which was built by the Cistercians in the 13th century to serve Coggeshall Abbey. It underwent significant structural alteration in the 14th century and is Grade I listed.
Inside you can discover more about the history of the barn covering 800 years of history. There are activities for all the family to enjoy during your visit. The barn was once an integral part of the Abbey and is one of the oldest surviving timber-framed buildings in Europe. It was saved from demolition in the 1980s by the local community.
You can also enjoy a 3-mile circular walk into the Essex countryside from Grange Barn, along the River Blackwater and by Paycocke’s house.
