Cosmeston Lakes Country Park and Medieval Village

Cosmeston Lakes Country Park and Medieval Village

Cosmeston Lakes Country Park is located near Penarth in South Wales. It has a variety of habitats and covers over 100 hectares of land and water. Some areas are designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest protecting the rare and diverse plant and animal species. The Country park opened to the public in 1978 and gained Local Nature Reserve status in May 2013. Today Cosmeston Lakes Country Park is a haven for local wildlife.

Facilities at the park include an adventure play area and BBQs for hire. There are plenty of waterfowl on the two lakes so make sure you take some bird-friendly food. Bikes are welcome in most areas but they are not permitted on the boardwalks. You can also often book pond dipping activities, bug hunting, den building, nature walks and more.

During the development of the park in 1978, they uncovered the remains of a community over 600 years old. They have since recreated the medieval village and it features a number of village buildings. You can explore this village and learn more about the people that once lived there.
