Cyfarthfa Castle and Park

Cyfarthfa Castle and Park

The Cyfarthfa Castle and Park is located close to the town of Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales. The castle was built around 1825 and it was constructed for ‘The Ironmaster’ William Crashay II who was one of the most influential men in Wales.

The site covers 65 hectares and the castle occupies a prominent position overlooking the town and the historic Cyfarthfa Ironworks. In 1910 the castle was developed into a museum and art gallery. It houses artefacts linked to the town’s past. Audio tours are available.

There is a miniature railway on-site. This has a steam train that is situated next to the picturesque lake and it takes families on fun-filled trips throughout the year with themed rides at various times of the year. The park also has a fun splash pad which is open in the warmer months. Also in the park, there is an ice house and a glass house with plants, palms and prize-winning pineapples. The park hosts a number of annual events.
