David Livingstone Birthplace
The David Livingstone Birthplace is located in Blantyre, South Lanarkshire. It is a biographical museum dedicated to the life and work of the explorer and missionary David Livingstone. Housed in a category A listed building the museum rests on the grounds of his birthplace which also contains historic grounds you can explore. The museum is inside former textile mill buildings which once housed 24 families including Livingstone’s. It was here that he was born in 1813.
Inside the museum, there is a diverse range of material exploring his life, work and legacy. You can track his life from early childhood working in the mill through to his travels throughout Southern Africa. There is a wonderful themed playground that is inspired by Livingstone’s voyages and children can enjoy exploring the grounds using their trails.

Dog friendly?
Dogs are welcome. It is not necessary for dogs to be kept on a lead at all times across the grounds, however, they must be kept on their leads in designated areas like inside the cafe, gift shop and in the museum.
