Dean Forest Railway
The Dean Forest Railway is a heritage railway in the countryside of Lydney, Gloucestershire. You can enjoy a relaxing journey on one of their steam locomotives.
What is there to do at Dean Forest Railway?
Their 4 1/2 mile line has a total of five stations from finish to end. You can explore the local areas and take in woodland walks and country pubs or explore Lydney Harbour with fantastic views across the Severn. The railway hosts a number of family-friendly events, and you also have the option to add an afternoon tea or takeaway cream tea to your booking before your train ride.
A steam train journey lasts for approx. 90 minutes. which is a round trip. This would start at their Norchard station and travel south to Lydney Junction and north to Parkend before returning to Norchard. This may change to the other way round. They also have diesel trains so it’s worth checking their running schedule before booking or visiting.
The Lydney Junction station has a toilet and you can enjoy a 2-mile round trip walk to the harbour. Lydney town is central to the town. There is a play area over the road from the station. Norchard is their main station and home to their museum and cafe. You can also enjoy a walk by the river. Whitecroft station also has toilets and is next door to a pub. Parkend station also has toilets and there are several walks in the local area.

There is a cafe at Norchard station serving hot and cold food and drinks. There are pubs close to some of the train stations.

What are the ticket prices?
Adults are £14 each, children 3-17 £6. under 3s are free. Other experiences are available at higher prices.

Is there parking?
There is a large free car park at Norchard Station. There is a small car park located near the Lydney Town Station, with very limited space, and no designated parking at Lydney Junction Station. They advise all visitors coming to them by car to park at Norchard Station.
