Delapre Abbey
Delapre Abbey and Park are located near Northampton, Northamptonshire. The abbey is situated on large grounds which you can also explore.
What is there to do at Delapre Abbey?
Around 900 years ago a community of nuns came to the once-quiet meadows to create their nunnery the Abbey of St. Mary de la Pre. They formed one of only two Cluniac Nunneries in medieval England. The abbey was threatened with destruction many times although it still remains today and has been partially restored.
Indoors the tales of the Abbey are told across five storytelling zones. You will investigate unexpected views, strange doorways and eccentric architecture. The zones have been designed to be engaging for visitors of all ages and there are hands-on, interactive displays.
Beyond the Abbey buildings, you can explore semi-formal gardens and over 500 acres of parkland. There are plenty of routes through the ancient trees.
