Dinosaur Expedition Centre

The Dinosaur Expedition Centre is located in Brighstone on the Isle of Wight. It was created by local fossil enthusiasts and houses displays of fossils. They also organise popular fossil hunting trips.

What is there to do at the Dinosaur Expedition Centre?

In the centre, you can see dinosaur fossils and palaeoart and there are activities for children. They educate the local community and visitors to the island on the need to encourage the retention of scientifically important specimens that are discovered locally. They want to ensure that the island’s unique fossil heritage isn’t lost forever.

The Isle of Wight is widely regarded as the best place in Europe to find dinosaur fossils. Although fossils can be found all over the UK and Europe there are few places where members of the public can go to find their own fossilised dinosaur remains.

On their fossil hunting trips, you will join one of their experienced and professional guides to one of the island’s beaches where you will discover your own fossils and you will be able to keep your own finds. The trips last for two hours and can start at one of five different locations. They will help you to find and identify any fossils that you find. From three of their starting points, you can even see dinosaur foot-casts and footprints.

What are the ticket prices?

Fossil hunting trips cost £5.50 per adult, children aged 5-17 are £3 and under 5s are free. The Expedition centre costs £4.50 per person, children £3.50 and children aged under 5 are again free. You can purchase combined tickets for a small saving.
