Doon Valley Railway

Doon Valley Railway

The Doon Valley Railway is an industrial heritage museum operated by the Ayrshire Railway Preservation Group. They are based at Dunaskin Heritage Centre and have seen a troubled history with closures. They now run a series of successful steam days and have been doing so since 2008.

Their passenger trains run from Spring through to Autumn. They are hauled by their steam loco and heritage diesel locos. The aim of the preservation group is to create a living museum where historically significant industrial steam and diesel locomotives can be seen working in an authentic industrial railway setting.

Located within the engineering workshop is their museum. They have a wide variety of industrial and mainline railway items on display including a standard gauge steam locomotive. You can enjoy the thrill of taking a short trip in their Brakevan hauled by one of their working steam locomotives along a section of the Dalmellington Iron Company’s main line.
