Things to do Drayton Manor Theme Park Magical Christmas review
If your looking for a Christmas activity to get you and the children into the Christmas spirit then this is a very magical experience. It is delightful for children and adults and an absolute must for any Thomas The Tank Engine Fans.
This is a review previous to 2020 – some aspects may not be the same this year. Please check their website.
On entering the Theme park children are enthusiastically greeted by Jingle the elf and Roary the Lion giving plenty of opportunities to take photos or “Elfies.” During the Christmas Period, there are shows and sing-a-longs throughout the day with the Fat Controller and his mischievous helpers Rusty and Dusty which culminates with artificial snow falling down on the audience each time making it all so much more Christmassy! Jugglers and stilt walkers entertain families and staff all genuinely appear to be happy to work there.
The Castle of Dreams – Families can upgrade to a Father Christmas visit in the Castle of Dreams, a castle situated in a lake. Elves entertain the children whilst you queue and then direct you to your own visiting room with Santa. Children receive a bag with a bear in a jumper and some vouchers to the Theme park. Families exit into the castle where they can take photos on a sleigh, have their face painted and colour Christmas pictures. There is also a shop where you can purchase gifts or your photo with Santa.
Percy’s Postbox – Children can write a letter to Father Christmas and have Percy deliver it for them. A letter pack can be purchased from the Thomas Land shop. Ice Age 4D Cinema – Enjoy the Ice Age “A Mammoth 4D Christmas” in the cinema wearing 4D specs and sitting in tilting seats, for the ultimate Christmas experience. Slide and Glide – A free indoor ice rink for all the family to enjoy.
Thomas Land – Central to Thomas Land is the life-size working train station and is surrounded by quaint village shops and twenty Thomas attractions! The whole family can board Thomas and his carriages at the station and go for a ride or climb into the Troublesome Trucks and feel the thrill of the runaway rollercoaster. For toddlers or younger children, there are cars which run along an elevated monorail which they can pretend to drive, Sodor classic cars, Terence’s driving school and Flying Harold Helicopter rides to name a few.
Primary age or older children might also enjoy Cranky’s Drop Tower or Rocking Bulstrode. With indoor and outdoor Thomas themed play areas as well as a Thomas exhibition and shops there is plenty to do. Those wanting something scarier can choose The Accelerator a roller-coaster ride which catapults you from a height and then takes you backwards!
The Zoo – The Zoo is open during the Christmas period with keeper talks well signed posted during the day. Animals include reindeer, monkeys, reptiles, parrots, and a tiger to name a few. Dino Trail – There is a dinosaur area behind the zoo with large dinosaur models. Firework Finale – The day ends with a firework display set to music over the lake. Seasonal Treats- Mince pies, biscuits and mulled wine can be bought from various eateries around the park, alongside their usual menus.
Covid 19 – Please check the website or social media of an attraction before visiting. Many places may be open differently and some remain closed. Reviews do not mention all of these changes or possible price changes. Most places still require you to pre-book online in advance.
