Dunbar Town House Museum and Gallery

Dunbar Town House Museum and Gallery

The Dunbar Town House Museum and Gallery is located on the High Street in Dunbar, East Lothian. It is housed within a 16th-century townhouse that has a distinctive witch’s hat tower, a bell, a clock and sundials.

On the ground floor, there is a museum and a gallery with changing historical and art exhibitions. Plus a local history display area. They pride themselves on their friendly staff who are always on hand to help bring the history of the town and the surrounding area to life.

You can take a guided tour of the building and find out even more about the interesting and unusual things to see on every floor or you can visit at your own leisure. On the top floor, there is Scotland’s oldest functioning council chamber. Below the chamber, there is a grimly atmospheric jail with its original iron door which has become a popular ghost-hunting venue. You can even see some prisoners’ graffiti.
