Dunluce Castle
Dunluce Castle is a ruined medieval castle located near Bushmills, County Antrim. It is one of the most picturesque castles in Ireland and there is evidence of a settlement there from the first millennium. The castle is the seat of Clan MacDonnell and you can access the ruins via a bridge that connects it to the mainland. It is located on the edge of a basalt outcropping that adds to the beauty of the place.
The present castle ruins date mainly from the 16th and 17th centuries. You can explore the castle ruins and descend a stairway external to the castle grounds where you can visit the cave beneath.
On-site you can see historical and archaeological exhibits on display. If you want to enhance your visit they have an app for iPhone and Android devices. A lot of people visit the castle today because it was used as Castle Greyjoy in the hit TV show Game of Thrones. It is a great place to combine with a visit to the Giant’s Causeway.
