Dunollie Museum Castle and Grounds
The Dunollie Museum Castle and grounds are located at Dunollie House near Oban, Argyll and Bute, Scotland. It is a small ruined castle with picturesque views of the island of Kerrera and views of the town, harbour and outlying isles. The site is internationally recognised for Scottish culture and heritage and is home to the Worldwide clan MacDougall. The medieval castle is perched on a cliff and is surrounded by stunning views.
In the oldest part of the Lair’s house is their 1745 house museum. This displays textiles, a Highland Social History collection as well as material about the clan MacDougall and archives. The grounds include some historic woodland and these surround the historic house and castle ruin. They host a number of special events, throughout the year.
Children can take part in a self-led activity trail, this is suitable for children aged 4-11 years and the explorer’s pack can be collected at reception. They also offer guided tours, which last for approximately 1 hour and take place almost entirely outdoors (this involves a steep walk up to the castle). They are also joined by a piper who plays for 30 minutes every Sunday.
