East Anglia Transport Museum
Museum Overview
This is an open-air transport museum located in Carlton Coalville in Suffolk. It has numerous historic public transport vehicles including many in full working order.
They have built a museum where vehicles of yesteryear can be seen in action. Half-forgotten sounds of the past are brought back to life and visitors can journey back in time by travelling on a few of the exhibits along the museum’s streets. They have recreated a street scene of houses and shops complete with authentic street furniture of bygone days that have been rescued by them from many parts of the country.
They have one of the widest ranges of preserved vehicles of any museum. They turned a disused meadow into a museum with depots, stores, workshops, refreshments and toilets. Not forgetting roads, tram tracks, overhead wiring for trans and trolleybuses and a light railway. You are also free, to take a stroll along their woodland path to the tram terminus at Hedley Grove. As well as trolleybus rides there is a 2ft gauge railway which opened in 1973. The museum also has a number of exhibition halls filled with historic vehicles and artefacts.
