East Somerset Railway
The East Somerset Railway is located in Cranmore, near Shepton Mallet, Somerset. It is a preserved steam railway that runs through the Mendip countryside.
What is there to do at East Somerset Railway?
As well as regular train services they also run Sunday lunch trains, sparkling afternoon teas and cream teas. For the children, there is a play area situated next to the cafe patio. They also run a range of annual events.
The train journey takes around 35 minutes and it is a 5-mile round trip. You are welcome to ride as many times as you wish on the day of your visit, subject to the availability of seats. You can also visit their engine shed and workshop where you can see restoration in progress
Plus there is a newly refurbished museum and in the David Shepherd Discovery Centre, you can see a celebration of the history of their railway and the world-famous wildlife artist whose vision for the railway made it what it is today. The signal box and miniature railway are open on specific days.
