Edinburgh Zoo
Edinburgh Zoo is a large 82-acre park in the Corstorphine area of Edinburgh, Scotland. It has extensive views of the city and it was first built in 1913. It is the second most popular paid-for tourist attraction, after Edinburgh Castle, in Scotland.
It was the first zoo in the world to house and breed penguins and it is the only zoo in Britain to house Queensland Koalas and Giant Pandas. The Budongo Trail houses a troop of 17 common chimpanzees that are great to watch from their viewing galleries.
There is a walk-through aviary with several species of exotic birds. There are daily talks and shows. Other animals, at the zoo include macaws, zebra, lions, meerkats and Sumatran tigers. Plus rhinos, giraffes, hippos, tapirs, lemurs, red pandas and more.
Penguin rock is really impressive with special nesting areas for their penguins and three different species the king, Gentoo and rockhopper. It is the largest outdoor penguin pool in Europe. The zoo is also home to some lovely gardens with 120 species of trees including even banana trees. There are several play areas around the Zoo, designed to allow children to have fun in a safe environment. The zoo also often has realistic dinosaurs that they often light up for special events.
