Eilean Donan Castle

Eilean Donan Castle is one of the most iconic sites in Scotland. Located on an island where three great sea lochs meet and is surrounded by stunning scenery. This castle is one of the prettiest and most recognised all around the world.
It is one of the most visited and important attractions in the Scottish highlands located in the county of Inverness-shire. The island was first inhabited around the 6th century. The first fortified castle was built in the mid-13th century. There have since been four different castles built throughout the following centuries. The castle that stands today was reopened back in 1932. You can now explore nearly every part of the castle and enjoy a journey through the history of the area.
Inside the castle, you can climb the steps to the keep door. In the billeting room, you can see collections of artefacts from the castle and the local area. The banqueting hall is a real highlight with timber ceiling beams made from Douglas Fir. Plus much more. The castle has its own visitor centre with a coffee shop, and gift shop and there is ample free parking.
