Eling Tide Mill Experience

Eling Tide Mill Experience

Eling Tide Mill Experience is located in Totton near Southampton, Hampshire. It is situated on an artificial causeway and is one of only two remaining operating tide mills in the UK. The mill today was built in 1785.

For 900 years millers have been harnessing the power of the tides in Eling Creek to grind wheat into flour. Today the Grade II* listed tide mill is surrounded by riverside walks and an adjacent visitor centre plus a cafe. Visitors are able to see the power of the tide turning the water wheel and powering the millstones. Please note that the machinery can only turn at low water so please check out their milling times to avoid disappointment.

You can learn more about the history of the mill via their new interactive exhibition. There is also an activity room where they host additional family-friendly activities and events, (at selected times). Families can enjoy a Wetland Wildlife Park, the trail leaflet can be purchased from the Mill Cafe and Gift shop for £2. There is also a walk leaflet available. The boardwalks down by the water are now accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs. You can take a walk along the river and see if you can spot the local bird life.
