Exploris Aquarium
The Exploris Aquarium is located in Portaferry, County Down. It is situated on the shores of the Marine Nature Reserve of Strangford Lough. They are also a seal sanctuary and rescue centre.
A visit to the aquarium starts with finding out more about the native species in the local waters. There are colourful coral reefs in the Tropical Ocean zone which is home to over 100 species. Outside you can see their family of Asian short-clawed otters plus a penguin enclosure.
The Exploris has been operating as a seal sanctuary since 1989. They rehabilitate sick, injured or abandoned seal pups. As the seal pupping is seasonal, it means that at certain periods of time, there will be no seals in their hospital.
