Fairy Glen Uig

Fairy Glen Uig

The Fairy Glen is a hillside known for its folk tales about fairies located near Uig on the Isle of Skye. Located in the hills above the village it is a strange landscape that was created by a landslip.

Winding around small round-top grassy hills with ponds in between the glen has an otherworldly feel. The Isle of Sky has a long history involving fairies most of which is related to Dunvegan Castle. The Fairy Glen itself has no real legends or stories involving fairies that can be traced. The location itself is so unusual that it has been given the nickname Fairy Glen.

One of the hills looks like a ruined castle and has been named Castle Ewan and it is even possible to climb to the top, although there isn’t much room. There is a very small cave behind this where it has been said that pressing coins into cracks in the rock will bring good luck. Some of these rocks have been moved to create spirals on the grounds although this practice is not encouraged.
