Farne Islands National Trust

Farne Islands National Trust

The Farne Islands are a group of small islands located off the Northumberland coast. They are owned by the National Trust and to sail around the Farne Islands you will need to catch a boat from Seahouses Harbour. Booking your trip in advance is highly recommended.

What is there to do at Farne Islands National Trust?

The islands are a national nature reserve and they are home to an internationally important breeding colony of thousands of seabirds and grey seals. Seabirds can include puffins, terns, guillemots and eider ducks depending on the time of year.

When there aren’t problems with avian flu it is possible to access Inner Farne and Staple Island. If you can’t visit because of restrictions you can still enjoy a cruise around the islands. Longstone Island is still open for landings and visits to the lighthouse which you can find out more information about here.

Weather permitting boat trips run all year round. There are three companies offering boat tours around the Farne Islands. There is Serenity Farne Island Tours, Farne Islands.com and Golden Gate Boat Trips. If your trip takes you onto land when there are no bird flu restrictions there is an additional fee to pay for non-members of the National Trust.
