Gainsborough's House
Gainsborough’s House is a museum and art gallery and the birthplace of the leading English painter Thomas Gainsborough. It is located in Sudbury, Suffolk. The museum first opened to the public in 1961 and it operates as an independent charitable trust. The house saw a large refurbishment in 2019 where it was closed for around 3 years.
Today visitors can view the family home as it will have looked during Gainsborough’s time living there and the new gallery spaces. There are examples of Gainsborough’s work on display. It is the most comprehensive collection of his work in a single setting.
They also run a programme of temporary exhibitions throughout the year. You can also see the famed crinkle-crinkle walled garden and Mulberry Tree dating back to the early 1600s.
