Greater Manchester Police Museum
The Greater Manchester Police Museum is located in the Northern Quarter of the centre of Manchester. It is housed in a former police station and the museum details the history of policing in Greater Manchester. It was in operation as a police station from 1879 until 1979.
Museum Overview
First opened as a museum in 1981 it is an important resource for community engagement where visitors can talk to staff and volunteers about policing. Inside there is a transport gallery and also a uniform gallery. You can see inside cells and the courtroom.
Other rooms include a charge office, a crime room and a room that introduces you to the museum. The museum features exhibits relating to costume and textiles, social history, weapons and war, photography, coins, medals and land transport. You can see and experience what life was really like for the officers and see how times have changed and how policing has evolved.
