What is there to do at Grimsthorpe Castle Park and Gardens?

The parkland at Grimsthorpe is extensive and well worth exploring. There are trails that you can follow on foot some of which can take you on a route of up to 10 miles. You can also take your bikes or hire their own. You may even spot a deer, a buzzard or some geese and ducks so take some food for them just incase. The park extends to almost 3,000 acres and is around 5 miles across at its longest point.

The gardens are well looked after and there is a popular kitchen garden. Dogs and bikes are not permitted in the formal gardens. The adventure playground is in a woodland setting and there’s plenty to play on including swings, a zip wire, climbing trail and slides. Plus a tiny tots area, climbing towers, bridges, adult trim trail and more. There are some great views of the lake on a path leading from the playground. You will also find some picnic benches in this area.

The castle itself is an unexpected marriage of architectural styles. The tudor south facade is contrasted by the Baroque splendour of the north front. It was the final masterpiece of Sir Jogn Vanbrugh the architect of Blenheim Palace and Castle Howard. There are some stunning collections of art and furnishings in the house that you can see today. There are guides in rooms to answer questions and you can also book on guided tours. You can even booka balloon flight via Virgins website.
