Guildford Castle is located in the centre of Guildford, Surrey. Also to visit nearby in the castle’s gatehouse is Guildford museum . The castle is thought to have been built by William the Conqueror or one of his barons shortly after the 1066 invasion of England.
The castle has been used as a Royal Palace, a prison and a private residence. From a visit here you can discover the history of the castle and climb to the top of its Great Tower to enjoy some stunning views. On the first floor you can see how it would have looked in times gone by.
The castle grounds are now open as public gardens and are home to some wonderful flower displays. There is a life-size statue of Alice Through the Looking Glass, a bowling green and music concerts sometimes take place in the bandstand plus an open theatre in the summer.
