Herstmonceux Castle near Hailsham in East Sussex is a 15th-century castle. The castle is one of the most picturesque in the UK with a water-filled moat. There are 300 acres of gardens and grounds to explore plus tours of the castle.

The castle is one of the oldest significant brick buildings still standing in England. The property is Grade II* listed. There are a variety of themed gardens with the Elizabethan garden being the biggest and the most prestigious. Other gardens include the Sundial and Rose Garden, Shakespeare Garden, Shady Garden and more.

Kids will love the enchanted magic garden. Along the woodland walk, there is a Folly to be found and if you visit at the right time of year the woods are full of bluebells. The castle hosts family-friendly events, throughout the year. You can also book exclusive experiences such as castle tours, falconry experiences and forestry school.

Make sure you pick up the family quiz activity sheet when you arrive. There is also the Marlow rope maze to find your way around and a new children’s adventure play area.
