Museum Overview
Hollytrees Museum is located in Colchester Castle Park in the centre of Colchester, Essex. It is situated in an 18th-century house which was once a private residence until 1929. Colchester Castle is also located within the park.
The museum features hands-on exhibits and displays. You can discover what family life was like for the rich and the poor through 300 years of history. There is a dolls’ house to explore, a fascinating collection of Colchester clocks and you can also learn about the origins of Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star which was written in Colchester.
There is a range of toys, art, costumes and clocks. Kids can try out a dolly peg and dress up as a servant. They also have temporary displays with one of their galleries regularly changing. The museum also holds annual events, including family-friendly activities.
