Hopewell Colliery

Attraction Overview

Hopewell Colliery is located near Coleford in Gloucestershire. They have a small on-site museum and they run underground tours of the coal mine. It is a working coal mine and it is set in the Forest of Dean.

A guided tour takes around 45 minutes and you will be taken underground and through the mine workings. All of their guides are experienced miners and they will explain how the mines work. Before your tour, you will be kitted out with a miner’s lamp and a helmet. Sturdy shoes and clothing should be worn. The tour is not suitable for young children or those with limited mobility.

It is a unique visitor experience where you can actually visit and see the mine workings. You will be able to see the extreme conditions that miners still work in today.
