Houghton Hall

Houghton Hall

Houghton Hall is a lavish mansion that was built in the 1720s for Great Britain’s first Priminister Sir Robert Walpole. Today you can not only look around the hall but there are large gardens and parkland to explore.

What is there to do at Houghton Hall?

The Hall is currently the home of the Marquess of Cholmondeley and his wife. Although it is their home there are many beautifully decorated rooms that you can see today. These include the staterooms where no expense has been spared in the decorating of these rooms.

The walled gardens at Houghton Hall are stunning and are amongst the best in the country. There are 5 acres to explore within the walls and there are some spectacular features including a rustic temple, antique statues, fountains and contemporary sculptures. There are other sculptures to be found in the rest of the grounds.

You can also look around the Soldier Museum which is the largest private collection of model soldiers in the world. In the gardens, you will also find a wooden adventure play area for the kids.
