Ipswich Transport Museum

Ipswich Transport Museum

Museum Overview

Ipswich Transport Museum is located in the Old Trolleybus Depot in Ipswich, Suffolk. The museum is devoted to the history of transport and engineering objects that were made or used in the local area with over 100 items including vehicles.

The museum shows us how people used to go about their daily lives. It is run by a group of volunteers so they are not open every day of the year. The collection started around 50 years ago with just one bus and it has now grown to one of the most comprehensive collections of its kind.

You can see buses, bicycles, prams, a police car, lawnmowers and lorries. Plus fire engines and a funeral hearse. There are also displays including cranes, forklift trucks and other intricate models.

Entry is allowed inside many of their static vehicles enabling you to truly sample the sights and sounds of the past. You can also wander around their restoration zone and there is a large G-scale model railway where you can ‘drive’ one of their trains on the layout. They also have a small activity zone for children. They also hold a few special events, throughout the year.
