Jupiter Artland
Just outside Edinburgh, Jupiter Artland is a truly extraordinary place where art and nature come together in the most imaginative ways. Set within 120 acres of woodland, meadow and gardens surrounding the grand Bonnington House, this sculpture park and contemporary art gallery offers a fully immersive experience from the moment you step onto the grounds.
Founded by art collectors Robert and Nicky Wilson, Jupiter Artland opened in 2009 with the aim of making modern art accessible, inspiring and adventurous. Rather than placing artworks behind ropes or glass, the park encourages visitors to explore freely. Sculptures reveal themselves around tree-lined paths, beside peaceful lakes and hidden in clearings, creating a sense of discovery and wonder with every turn.
The collection features numerous world-famous artists, each commissioned to create pieces that belong uniquely to this landscape. From quietly contemplative installations to bold, thought-provoking landmarks, the artworks blend seamlessly into their environment. One of the most iconic is a dramatic landform sculpture by Charles Jencks, sweeping hills and water pools that you can walk across, giving the feeling of stepping inside a living sculpture.
Jupiter Artland is far from a static museum. Its indoor galleries host an ever-changing schedule of exhibitions, and the venue regularly welcomes new commissions, performances and seasonal events. Creative workshops and educational programmes make it a wonderful destination for families, as well as anyone looking to spark their imagination.
