Lakeside Country Park
Lakeside Country Park is a country park located just south of the town of Eastleigh in Hampshire. It is home to the Eastleigh Miniature Steam Railway and the park covers 60 acres. It is on the site of old gravel workings with lakes formed from gravel pits.
The park has a thriving and diverse range of wildlife from birds, insects and small mammals to deer, foxes and even bats. The steam railway runs every weekend throughout the year and during school holidays. They run from the main station at Eastleigh Parkway and the trip takes around 15-20 minutes. They are believed to have the largest collection of miniature locomotives on a commercial railway in the country.
You can take part in a number of watersports including paddleboarding, canoeing, model boating and open-water swimming. There is a charge for these activities. The lake also provides good coarse angling and day permits must be purchased. The park has an off-road cycle route and there are three orienteering courses to suit different levels from beginner to improver. There is also an art trail, a demonstration garden and you can enjoy walking in the park.
