Lancaster City Museum

Lancaster City Museum is located in the centre of Lancaster, Lancashire. It is housed in the former Lancaster Town Hall building in the Market Square.

Inside you can discover the history of the city of Lancaster from the pre-historic era, through to today. Their galleries are packed with objects and stories to help you explore the heritage of the city and its people.

The museum was originally founded in 1923 and has a wonderfully varied collection. Dioramas lead visitors through the archaeology, social and industrial history. Also on-site is the King’s Own Royal Regiment museum which provides a fascinating insight into the military heritage of the city’s own regiment from 1680 onwards.
