Lissan House

Lissan House is a 17th-century house located in Cookstown, County Tyrone. It was the seat of the Staples baronets and it is situated at the foot of the Sperrin mountains and has a 276-acre estate.

Things to do at Lissan House

You can visit the house with one of their tour guides. They will tell you the story of how the Staples family came to set up home there and how their fortunes faired through good and bad times. House tours are usually available in the summer.

There are also some modern interactive exhibits within the house and children will be kept entertained in the house with the teddy bear treasure hunt. The house is open from Easter to mid-September on Saturdays and Sundays and Thursday to Sunday in July and August.

Much of the estate can be explored on foot including the White Bridge to Harry’s Bridge trail. There is also the Lissan Legends trail which is great for families. Along the way, you will discover clues and solve puzzles as you explore the Wildflower meadow and Owl sanctuary. This trail takes around 1 hour and there is a small charge of £4 per person.

The estate is free to visit with a small charge for parking. You can pay £4 for their new trail. There is also a charge to visit the house of £4 per adult and £3 per child aged 5-15, under 5s are free and family tickets are available.

When are they open?

The estate is open all year round except Christmas Day. The house is open from Easter until mid-September at weekends and Thursday – Sunday in July and August. For up-to-date opening times please visit their website.
