The National Trust’s Longshaw Estate, Burbage and the Eastern Moors is an area of parkland and heather moorland in the Peak District. It is free, to visit and they are perfect for visiting to enjoy family-friendly walks.

Overview

Longshaw Estate has spectacular views across the countryside of the Peak District. There are facilities at Longshaw within the Moorland Discovery Centre. which include a tea room, gift shop, trails, toilets and outdoor picnic tables. The centre often has activities for families such as hunts and themed crafts.

The walks around Longshaw estate are pushchair and wheelchair friendly. The Boggart trail encourages you to find 6 Boggart hiding places. Please enquire at the visitor centre for a map. Kids will love playing in the woodland just half a mile away in Padley Gorge which is a fantastic spot for a paddle although access is not possible here with a pushchair or a wheelchair.

There are many different walks available that are waymarked. They are a variety of lengths and again maps can be obtained from the visitor centre. If you head in the direction of Longshaw Lake make sure you have some bird-friendly food with you. Don’t forget to plan with the weather in mind and don’t set off for a walk without plenty of water.

There is a cafe serving hot and cold food and drinks. You are welcome to bring a picnic.

The National Trust parkland is free to visit.

Is there parking?

There is parking which is free to National Trust members. If you are not a member there is a charge to park.
