Maidenhead Heritage Centre
Museum Overview
The Maidenhead Heritage Centre is located in the centre of Maidenhead, Berkshire. It is a museum that explores the history of Maidenhead and the air transport auxiliary that was headquartered at White Waltham airfield during WWII.
The mission of the centre is to preserve and celebrate the area’s heritage for the benefit of present and future generations. The museum is mostly run by volunteers and they are located just 2 minutes’ walk from Maidenhead High Street.
They first opened their doors in 1993 and they are currently in discussions about a possible relocation to a vacant building at Braywick Park. Permanent exhibitions include the Story of Maidenhead, Grandma Flew Spitfires and their Spitfire Simulator experience. This can be pre-booked online and costs £20 for 30 minutes or £40 for 60 minutes. With replica flight controls and a wide-screen pilot view, this experience has been described as a great activity for all the family. It is available for ‘pilots’ aged 8 and over.
Families can enjoy extra activities including gladiator dress-up, a mini building area and a children’s toy box and they also run many free, family activity days. There is a small entrance fee for the Grandma Flew Spitfires gallery.
