Mid Suffolk Light Railway

Mid Suffolk Light Railway

The Mid Suffolk Light railway is a standard gauge railway located in Wetheringsett near Stowmarket, Suffolk. It is the county’s only standard gauge heritage railway and they offer steam open days and events.

Their services are normally steam operated and the railway is affectionately known to locals as the ‘Middy’. It was a classic case of a railway built too late and was effectively broken before it ever opened. In 1991 a group of enthusiasts got together to rescue the railway and worked hard to reopen the line making it a fine example of rural English history.

A section of the railway at Brockford has been recreated with original station buildings. They run a range of themed events, including Santa specials plus their steam railway days. There is also a railway museum shop, real Ale bar, workshop and cafe.
