Montacute House
Montacute House is a National Trust property located in Montacute, Somerset. It is a late Elizabethan mansion house with a surrounding garden.
What is there to do at Montacute House?
You can explore the house and discover its collections including the longest surviving Elizabethan gallery and fine Tudor portraits.
The gardens are one of the few remaining Elizabethan compartmentalized gardens in the UK with lawns, flower beds and clipped yew hedges. Look out for their 150-year-old wibbly wobbly hedges which collapsed, possibly after a harsh winter and have left a lasting strange shape.
Around the wider estate, you can enjoy waymarked walks through woodland and parkland. There is also the tower on the summit of St Michael’s Hill which offers views of the Somerset countryside.
